      Thanks for your comment!

It may take some time to get your first clients, so be patient. If you have a niche that you’re consulting in, you can generate a list of potential clients, and then call them to discuss your services (make sure to speak with someone who’s in charge of purchasing services).

What I’ve found is that there can sometimes be a long lag time between the time that I first contact a prospective client and the time that I actually start working for them. That lag time depends on the client, but is often 2-4 months, and sometimes longer. I’ve had clients who seemed very interested in my services, and finally obtained work from them 12-18 months later.

So, it’s a little like planting an orchard: you may not get immediate work, but your marketing efforts will eventually bear fruit, and then the client relationships that you’ve developed lead to a stream of work from each client.

Fantastic blog! Do you have any helpful hints for aspiring writers? I’m planning to start my own blog soon but I’m a little lost on everything. Would you advise starting with a free platform like WordPress or go for a paid option? There are so many choices out there that I’m completely overwhelmed .. Any suggestions? Kudos!

      Thanks for your comment!

WordPress offers a ton of functionality as well as ease of administration, and most professional bloggers use it. If you haven’t already, go ahead and sign up for my free ebook “Your $100 Professional Website”, since that details how you can get started with a blog and/or professional-looking website.

The whole process is actually very easy, and very affordable.
